Sue Lovegrove

Sue Lovegrove’s 2015 series is inspired by the lakes, tarns and lagoons in the mountains and along the coastline of Tasmania. Although abstract in their form, these works reflect the fluctuating patterns of weather and the ecological health of the landscape. From vast expanses of shallow water just a few centimetres deep to boggy, leechy puddles on alpine plateaus or deep aqua blue tarns hanging amongst the rocky peaks of ancient volcanic mountains, these water-holes all provide vital life support and habitat to an abundance of birds, mammals, frogs and invertebrates. Lovegrove explores the beauty of nature and the fragility of these ancient landscapes which are constantly under threat by climate change and other aspects of human intervention.
